Halloween Fun

Had some Halloween fun at work today. It was a dress up your manager event, followed by a hilarious Manager's Parade and lunch. My co-worker Cheryl and I got in on the costume action (see right). I went as one of my fave cartoon stars, the truly, truly, truly outrageous Jem. Cheryl was one of her beloved New York Yankees.

Smurf Trauma

I was traumatized when I read this today. Is this history of Smurfette common knowledge?? Yeah, that's a great message for kids.

Two errands and a bed

I have to go to Ikea tonight. Mel and I bought a wardrobe on Saturday. When I started putting it together, I found that the corner of one of the pieces was chipped. It's a pretty big chip, so I figured I should exchange it. So on Sunday I braved the rain and returned to the crowded-crazy-busy-frenzied-circus that is Ikea. While waiting to exchange the piece, I realized that I brought the wrong freakin' piece. Arg. I was so mad at myself. Now I must return again. I guess that decides what I'm going to have for dinner. Two hot dogs and a pop for $2 it is.

I'm also going to stop by the Renfrew Branch of the Vancouver Public Library to pick up a book I requested, Blindness by Jose Saramago. The basic premise is that one by one, the residents of a city go blind. Sounds pretty interesting. I'll keep you posted.

That's it for the two errands, now to the bed. I want to get a new bed. After a visit from my sister on Sunday and a few naps on my roomie's amazing new bed, I've realized that my bed is crap. Not total crap, but beyond what a mattress pad can fix. I would like to get a Queen, but I'm not sure if I can fit it my room. I've never purchased a bed before, so please pass along any bed buying advice you may have. Thanks.

It's my party and I'll drink sangria if I want to

Well, the big b-day is over. It was an awesome day. Slept in. Woke up to find my roomie Mel had bought me some beautiful yellow roses. Went to work. Had lunch at Simply Thai with my co-workers. Met up with friends and had dinner at La Bodega (yummy food, awesome sangria). Was spoiled by friends with a bottle of wine, new earrings, and a fab glass tray. Arrived back at home to find a bundle of my fave treats (including Chewy Chips Ahoy and Archie comics) from my roomie. Watched Sex and the City. Soaked in a nice hot bath. Went to sleep.

I also must mention the great pre-birthday stuff. Had a great family dinner on the weekend to celebrate Thanksgiving and my birthday (boy, do I miss that home cooking!). And on Tuesday night, my sister and brother-in-law came over to my place with flowers and chocolate cupcakes! And there's more to come (another party on Friday).

Thanks to everyone for helping me celebrate my 25th birthday. All the cards, gifts, e-cards, emails, text messages, msn messages and voicemails were greatly appreciated. :)

Month of Milestones

Well, aside from the horrible weather, my convocation ceremony on Friday was great. My mom, dad, sister and brother-in-law were on hand to celebrate and document the occasion (photos can be found in my gallery). Had a nice lunch afterwards, then headed to a party later that night. The party was good fun, but I was a hurtin' unit the next day (note to self: Jane + shooter party = hangover).

Another big milestone is coming up. I turn the big 2-5 on Wednesday. Will be having dinner with friends at La Bodega that night, and probably have some more b-day fun on the weekend.

The Graduate

Well, it's finally here. I will officially graduate from SFU with my Bachelor of Arts degree on Friday morning. It's one of those things I've always known was going to happen, but now that it's actually here it seems a bit weird. Good weird, though. I suppose it's partly because I feel like I've graduated already, having finished classes in April and become fully entrenched in the working world. Nevertheless, it's an exciting milestone and I'm looking forward to it. You too can be part of this momentous occasion by watching the live webcast (Friday, October 8 at 9:45 am).
