The Hockey Sweater

Just had a nice lunch with dad and picked up my new vintage Canucks jersey. Some guy at the pub offered me a beer for it, to which my dad replied, "What? Is that all they're worth now?" (Aw, poor Canucks). Then he offered me $50. I figured he was joking, but after we left I started thinking about how much the jersey is actually worth. I found a site selling the same jersey for about $120 CAN, plus $95 to have it customized (mine's an Ohlund jersey). Wow, maybe I should sell it. But then again, it is pretty cool and is one of those things that I would never buy for myself.

Rewarded for drinking beer

I got some good news last night. There was a message on the answering machine from the Shake & Shingle pub. I called back and found out that I won a Canucks jersey! I was down at the pub about two weeks ago with Mel and James, during which I had two pints of Canadian. There was some sort of promotion on, so for each pint I got an entry form for a Canucks jersey draw. Looks like those beers really paid off! Unfortunately I won't have much use for the jersey given the loss on Monday. Next season. My dad and I are going to head down to the pub for lunch -- to celebrate my finishing school and to get my jersey!

Free at last

At about 4:40 pm today I finished my last final exam. Ah, it feels so good to be done. Next stop, graduation! Well, first I'll be doing a co-op term at Blast Radius and then "officially" graduating in October.

That's how many Canucks car flags I counted on my way to and from school yesterday!

You're hired!

So Bill is THE APPRENTICE. Good choice. I was never much of a Kwame fan, although I do think he really came through in the end. But still, Bill was better all throughout the game and at the end.

And I was wrong about my Omarosa theory. No setup, she was just a big ol' liar. It's just so hard to believe that someone would lie like that on national television. She obviously couldn't get away with it. Is she a space case? Is that the image she is trying to project? Hey, maybe those manipulative skills are what get her jobs as a political consultant.

In the end, it wasn't a terribly exciting finale. It seemed like there were really grasping to create controversy at some points (for example, Bill was looking for that sign for a long time). But it was a good show. It will be interesting to see what they do next season.

Finals fun

Had my first final exam yesterday (so far so good) and have another one today. Then two more next week. There are some things I will miss about school, but exams certainly aren't among them.

Climbing the corporate ladder

Getting excited about The Apprentice finale on Thursday (it's right after my human resources final, which seems rather fitting). I found this cool little climbing the corporate ladder game to get me all "fired" up for the big finish.

A capital idea

Don't think I've mentioned this yet, but I recently found out that I've been accepted to the British Columbia Legislative Internship Program in Victoria for January 2005. The program offers university graduates a chance to observe and gain exposure to public policy-making and legislative processes. It begins with an orientation week in the Legislature, followed by placements with a ministry and party caucus. Many of the program's past participants have gone on to great success, so I am very excited about this opportunity.

School's out for...ever??

Last Tuesday was my last day of classes...ever! Well, maybe not ever. But for now. Just four final exams to go. It's so strange (in a good way) to think that I won't be returning to SFU in the fall. I don't want to slack off now that I'm in the home stretch, but it has been incredibly difficult to study with the gorgeous weather we've been having this past week.

The Apprentice

I am totally hooked on The Apprentice. Great episode tonight. I have a theory about the whole Omarosa debacle. I think that her total incompetence on the show tonight is a setup to test Kwame -- see how he manages problem employees and handles bad situations. They used Omarosa because, based on her previous behaviour, people can believe that she is capable of screwing up this big (as well as flat out lying). But I think that it's a little too convenient that our favourite villain on the show has messed things up this badly. It's a total setup and next week they will show someone on Bill's team screwing up royally. If they showed a person on each team messing up big time this week, it would be way too obvious that it was being done on purpose. Maybe I'm crazy, but that's my take on it. We'll find out next week. I can't wait!!
