May 27, 2003Happy AnniversaryHappy Anniversary Nicole and Fred! I would write more but I'm feeling really crappy right now. I think I'm coming down with a nasty cold. Hopefully it will go away.

May 25, 2003Happy Birfday XtinaWell it's Sunday night and I'm just winding down from a great weekend. Saturday morning I got up bright and early for the Great Glebe Garage Sale. Think 10 square blocks of garage sales! I wasn't too happy on the way there because I had gotten up at 6:30 am on a Saturday morning (my roommate John wanted to get there early) . . . but once we arrived and started finding some deals I was a much happier camper. My roommates and I got (among other things) a VCR for $14, an original Nintendo (with about 6 games) for $5, rollerblades for $10, and a toaster over for $10. We probably would have gotten more stuff but it was a rainy morning and there was only so much we could get home on the bus! So we headed home with our treasures at about 9:00 am and went back to bed. That afternoon I saw The Matrix Reloaded. It was okay. I wasn't terribly impressed though. That night we got the party started for my roommate Christina's birthday. We chilled at our place for awhile, then headed to The Honest Lawyer for some drinks and games. After Christina kicked my butt at air hockey, we headed to a nearby bar called "On Tap". I went there last weekend, but it was way too crowded (it was the long weekend). It was much better this time. I danced the night away, even made it up on to the bar counter to show off my moves (think speaker dancing at Tommy's). Overall had an awesome night. Today is Christina's actual birthday. We got her out of the house for most of the day so that John and I could decorate our place for the potluck dinner planned for the evening. If I do say so myself, it looked pretty cool. Christina was very impressed. I'll have to post some pics. The potluck was great, but now I am very tired and stuffed. So I must go to bed! Night all. Hope you had a great weekend as well. Happy Birfday Xtina!

May 19, 2003Lovin' the long weekendI love long weekends -- an extra day off is just what I needed. Saturday I did some shopping and lunch with my cousin Mark. Later I went out to dinner with some friends and then to the Sam Roberts concert (part of the Tulip Festival). Great concert, but the drowd wasn't exactly what I would call high energy. Yesterday (Sunday) I went to one of the Tulip Festival sites in Hull, Quebec with Christina and Jess. It was a hot day, at least for a Vancouverite like me! I hope I survive the heat this summer! Later Sunday night I went up to Parliament Hill to watch some fireworks and then to a local bar called "On Tap". It was okay, but reminded me of Tommy's back home (i.e., a bit scungy and a very young crowd). Today (Monday) I think I'm heading to Dows Lake, another Tulip Festival site. But right now I'm feeling pretty lazy, so we'll see. Later.

May 12, 2003Live from the nation's capitalHey all! Well, I'm typing this at my new place in Ottawa. As some of you may know, I recently moved to the nation's capital for a four-month co-op position with the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency. So, I made it here safe and sound. Had a good flight and arrived at about 4:40 pm on Friday, May 2. My cousin Mark was there to pick me up -- thank goodness, because luggage carts were scarce and I don't think I could have transported all my stuff without him! We went straight to my place and met my landlady. I'm really impressed with my place -- it's much nicer than I expected. It's a two-floor townhouse that I share with two other co-op students from SFU (John and Christina). The bottom floor has a living area, dining room and big kitchen. The top floor has our three rooms (mine's the biggest!) and a bathroom. It's a great location -- close to Byward Market and within walking distance of downtown. There's also a Tim Horton's next door (and I mean right next door!). I haven't done a whole lot of touristy things yet, mostly just hanging out and getting settled in. It's strange to be in a new city, but it actually hasn't been that hard to adjust. I now own a digital camera, so I will definitely post some pictures in the near future.
